Excellent range when you get the right antenna
Well made radio for the money. I tore mine down to get a feel for the build quality and I'd say they are on par with some of my better ham radio gear. The antenna that comes with them are fairly run of the mill for cheap Chinese radios and once replaced with better ones, these radios preform well above their price. I easily got about 15 miles with only a little noise. But - when I used them in the city it was less than a mile. This is all to be expected. I live in the desert on a bluff and as long as I'm line-of-sight with the other radio, 15 miles is no problem but once in the city, trees, buildings, etc... It varies a lot.

Nice radios, but not long range.
Would have given 5 stars based on the design and build quality for the money, since there aren't many other options for MURS.However, the range is disappointing. With the standard antennas these radios only worked for a block or two in the neighborhood. With one radio attached to a DBJ-1 (commerical) antenna about 30ft above ground, signal from the other radio inside a car was sketchy at about a quarter mile out and basically unusable beyond that. Adding a Nagoya UT72 to the mobile did increase range somewhat, but was unreliable much past a half mile. SWR tested very low on both antennas at MURS frequencies.I understand there are lots of variables here, but I'm getting double this range or more with 900mhz 1w radios with similar antennas. Being "up to" 2 watts VHF I expected a lot more range with these, especially with external antennas.Interestingly, the FCC ID on these is for RT27V, and the power output is listed as .34-.37 watts. Unsure if this explains the low range or if there is something wrong with the radios, but I'll probably be returning them and looking at the BTECH MURS-1 which is actually 2 watts.Update: after some relative field strength testing, I'm estimating these put out around 1.5 watts. I did get the BTECH MURS-1, which seems to have only slightly better transmit/receive performance. The range on that is still not good, so I suspect I have some serious RF interference issues in my area on the MURS band, or else the terrain here is just not well suited to it.Update 2: I have already returned these radios but just found a problem with the Ut72 mobile antenna I was testing these with. Very poor reception with several different radios. I can't verify now, but suspect range on these rt47v radios would have been much better with a different mobile antenna. Increasing to 4 stars.

Seem like well built radios
Had the two radios for a couple of weeks and so far am impressed. Range is 1.5 - 2 miles over rolling mixed terrain. External gain antenna in attic gives about 4 miles, swapping remote radio to a vehicle 3dB gain antenna give 6+ miles. Still testing. I like that you can select high/low power, scrambling, Tone, etc. with the software and programming cable. It is not always clear where to find extra batteries or ear bud mics. But tech support is pretty quick to provide that info.

Great Radio
Great radios, and great customer service. A screw that holds the fist mic to the radio broke inside the radio, so they sent me a new radio. Hoped it came with a new screw but it did not.

Very nice units
These have been great so far! They are rugged. The sound is very clear. I have used them inside with no issues and outside i have not exceed the range. I would highly recommend these.

Solid!
Very well made study product! Easy to use. Not a lot of buttons to mess with. Hand mic is a little big for such a small radio but not a huge drawback.

Good purchase
Bought these for a cross country road trip and they worked great. Battery held up great.
