BDF S8MC Window Film Security and Safety 8 Mil Clear - 30in X 49ft

Update: This film works and I found out the hard way. 4am on Saturday I woke to a loud, fast banging that also shook the house. I ran down the stairs to find out what was going on as my alarm went off (glass break sensors). I found a burglar attempting to bust in the window of the back door. Between me and the alarm, he was scared off. He had hit the big glass window of the back door around a dozen times with a small crow bar. This created a little hole in the window, but the film kept the 100 year old plate glass window mostly in place. This film slowed down his entry long enough for other layers of protection to scare him away. Instead of a couple seconds it would've taken without the film, the creep was working on that window for a little while before he was scared off. If I didn't have this film on the back door window, he may have gotten in the house, I don't wanna know what might have happened to my family sleeping inside. As the cops came and searched the area for the burglar, the window hole slowly got bigger as gravity pulled the glass down and tore the film. It started out a little smaller than a tennis ball size and grew to a football sized hole in about a half hour. I loosely applied a decorative window cling film to hold the glass in place until a repair person came out to replace the window later that day. The picture I have attached is from hours after the event and the placement of the film. I have ordered more film and am applying it on every basement window along with bars on the windows not visible from the street. It's all about layers of protection and visible deterrents. This burglar wasn't deterred by cameras or alarm warning signs, but the film slowed him down long enough to be scared off by other means. _______________________ Original Review: My home was burglarized a little over a month ago. The burglars gained entry by breaking a basement window. This caused us to improve our security. Once you are broken into you are very likely to be robbed again. We needed to reclaim our home and feel safe again. One of the many ways We did this was by putting this film on the basement windows and other windows that might tempt a burglar. Overall I would recommend this film because it is easy to install and provides some peace of mind. No security system is 100% effective, but this will at least slow any burglar down. Also we live in an Earthquake zone, this will help my family be safe from broken or falling glass, should the big one hit (knock wood). Pros: - I easily installed this myself, even though I have no real repair/handy type experience. I admit I am a little afraid of power tools. - I feel safer in my home. Cons: - Even though I felt I cleaned the glass really well before, there are still some streaks visible. I didn't see them before I put the film on. I don't know if this is installation error or the product. I have to really look to see them, especially since I put up a thin curtain. - There are still bubbles after a month. I thought I got all the bubbles out, but I guess I didn't. The directions say not to worry about tiny bubbles as they will go away after a month. Well some did, some didn't. Tips: - While the majority of this project is a one person job, but have someone there to help when peeling off the backing and placing the film against the window. If the piece is at all large, like for a standard window, it can be a little had to manage. Remember it comes rolled and wants to return to that position. Also, the film can also slip around a little when trimming. A second set of hands and eyes monitoring that while someone else is cutting may be handy. - Make sure the area is clean, not just the window, and you have your hair secured. I was putting this on back door and windows. I didn't make much of an effort to clean the area, just the window. Now there are a small flake of leaf debris stuck between the window and film on the door, and one of my hairs stuck between the film and a window. They aren't really noticeable to other people and they are in the back part of the house, but I see them every time. - The film does come with a cutting tool etc. They are okay, and will do he job. But be careful, I have a wavy film edge on one window where I learned the hard way. I then used a metal straight edge to trim the edges. Only I notice this, but again I notice this every time I see that window. - Also, be careful when cutting. My finger barely grazed the edge of the film and it sliced a little into my finger, like a bad paper cut. Hopefully, if someone tries to break into my house, they will see the hair, debris, wavy edge, bubbles and know that I put a security film on the window making it harder to break in. I know this is wishful thinking, but I'm a positive person.

I ordered this back in April 2020, and just installed it yesterday. I procrastinated so long because I dreaded the installation process (partially based on some of the reviews). But once I finally got to it I found out that it was actually extremely easy. First off, this stuff is thick and fairly rigid, but crystal clear. I sort of expected some kind of distortion whether it was blurry or you could see waves through the plastic, something like that - but no! This stuff is literally invisible once installed. The package came with a page of outstanding color instructions on thick stock, an excellent squeegee with a felt protective covering on one end, and a decent snap-off razor blade tool. The instructions have a URL to the company's instruction page where they have a few very professionally done instructional videos. I read all the instructions and watched all the applicable videos. When it came time for installation, I set up the area to work and staged all the supplies. The one thing I did that deviated from the instructions (based on a couple of people's suggestion in the reviews) was to carefully measure and precut the film to the size of the windows. The instructions have you leave an inch around the entire border and use the razor and squeegee as a guide to trim the edges to the window. However, this film is so think I think it would be very difficult to trim while holding it against the window pane. If you're careful measuring and cutting, you can get it to fit perfectly. I used a framing square and a dry erase marker to mark the cut lines and then a sharp pair of scissor right on the line. When I placed the film against the window, it slipped right into place. The rest of the install I did exactly like the instructions and it went perfectly. I also purchased some high quality clear silicone adhesive to seal the edges where the film meets the frame. I am told that doing this will make the window almost impenetrable. Without it, the window will stay together, but may come out as a single sheet where the glass breaks away from the frame. The sealant I purchased was very strong and should hold the entire piece in the frame making kicking it in very very difficult. I hope it never gets tested. Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase and will definitely be buying more from this company in the very near future!

So far I'm satisfied with this product. Pros: - 8mil: this is seriously thick. - one of the box was damaged and patched (I'm thinking by the shipping company), but everything was intact inside. Overall, good packaging. - comes with a nice rubberized squeegee card to help with application. Also comes with instructions, and a 'cutter'. - the box works perfectly to "unroll" the film. Think big wrapping paper rolls around christmas-time in department stores. It's the same idea: 2 plastic supports in the box let you unroll the plastic without removing it from the box. This is very helpful to cut it right... - extra quantity. I didn't check carefully, but I think there was clearly some extra length on the rolls (I bought the same film in 3 different sizes). - transparency looks fine, at least for now. - good "peel as you install" system. Read the instructions and do not forget to peel :-) Cons: - hard to install. Not specific to this brand/model, but 8 mil film is really thick. - I still have a few "bubbles" (not really bubbles, but small pockets of water I didn't push out). I'll see if they go out over time or if I should work on it. - it's just a film. Without ways to anchor it to the frame (glue or other), this will not prevent the glass from breaking "clean" on the edges of the window. - I think to be security film, it needs to pass some falling ball test with some size/weight/repetitions... I'm not sure this passed these tests. i.e. is this certified by an independent company? That said, you might get what you pay for, but this is so much cheaper than going with some high-end 3M film that requires professional installation... So not wanting to pay more than a replacement window price just to get a safety film on some old windows, this might actually be a positive... Installation tips: - use lots of soapy water (6-10 drops of clear liquid soap per 16 oz of water in a spray bottle). I had a "Gila" spray kit from some previous window films I used, but do your own with water and soap work as well. - clean, clean, clean your windows. I did 2 clean with window cleaner (dry each time), 1 heavy rinse with pure water. dry with microfiber cloth (no lint). scrape with razor blades (for utility knifes), rinse again with water. then soapy water, and install the film (from the top of the windows for me) - plan a lot more time than you think it will take. - decide if you will go for perfection or good enough. Perfection will take huge amounts of time. - it really helps if you have the experience of installing some window film (usually not that thick) before. [update 11/22/2016] The film was pretty strong. I got a window broken (weed whacker + small stone), and to remove the entire window pane (that was a dual-pane window with the outside pane broken), I tried to break the inside pane of glass that had the film on it. Kicking didn't work at all. And it took many full force blow with a carpenter hammer to break the glass. The film stayed intact all around. Once broken, I was able to kick it out from the edges, and remove the entire broken pane of glass still attached to the plastic film, and put it in the trash. So from that experience, I'd say the film worked very well. If the film could be put safely from the outside (without possibility to peel it off), the protection would be quite incredible.

I just purchased this window film and after a few days of procrastinating I finally put this on my windows. I put this on 4 smaller pane windows and a large sliding glass door, before I ordered I measured everything exactly as I would need and purchased the order for the appropriate amount, they gave me a bit of extra which was in case of minor screw ups and with the extra I was also able to put some film onto a small thinner window as well. Having some extra is a nice touch. While I hope to never need to test this film's strength out, I purchased it for protection from the elements, intruders, and also from my child who may decide one day to throw a ball at the window, for safety reasons you can imagine I don't want shards of glass falling everywhere with a toddler in the home. The film itself is nice, it feels very thick and sturdy. I'm hoping it holds up well in the long run. As for install, the kit comes with a plastic squeegee and a sharp cutting knife to cut the film, your own tools you will need are a spray bottle with some soap and water in it, measuring tape, a straight edge ruler, a pair of sharp scissors or if you have a straight cutting board tool that would definitely come in handy for this job. I have done minor tint jobs in the past on my car windows and with that I would say I have had some previous experience when it comes to installing tint on windows, however car glass is usually a little convex and that makes things very difficult, unless you have some weirdly shaped windows (circles, custom glass that curves) this shouldn't be too difficult to do. The most important thing is to make sure you have a clean work surface for the film and the glass you're applying it onto. I was able to have minimal dust and bubbles enter the film and most of it is because of keeping the glass very clean and very soapy during the entire installation. My advice is to measure your window, (measure twice cut once) and cut the film to the exact size of the window if you can cut very nice straight lines. I discovered this worked much better after half way through the job, it's rather difficult to trim the film once it is on the glass without causing it to get a bit dirty, also you can probably get straighter lines cutting it on a table than on the glass itself. Because the film is so thick and sturdy I wasn't as worried about the film crimping like the flimsy tint would do, just wet it, slide things around a bit and squeegee the water out. Work from the center with a vertical line down the middle than push water out towards the sides horizontally until you get all the water out. I would also recommend doing this at night or if it's not too hot but I prefer night as the water doesn't just evaporate on contact with the window, this gives you more time to reposition and squeegee. I hope this helps, and you have a good install, I feel like it's going to give me a bit more peace of mind that my windows are more secure, and if anything it'll buy me a few extra seconds to dial the authorities if anything were to happen.

I put this on the glass doors for the front and the back of my home. I watched the online video's of how to apply it on Amazon before I bought this. I have in past years done tinted window filament covers and none of them are fun to apply. I bought the extra soapy window spray suggested to buy from Amazon. I used this on the first door window and it dried with soapy smears. On the next door window I just used general spray of Windex to apply the film and it worked better? I read the directions carefully before cutting and applying the window security film to the windows. On back door windows I cut 1 inch larger, which leaves about 1/2 inch all around. That was too difficult to apply and cutting excess off. On front door I cut it to exact size and that was much easier to apply and left clearer view after it dried. The commercial soapy water spray I bought left white smears between window and safety film after it dried. It also left view slightly distorted view. The Windex spray left a clearer view and was easier to adhere security film to windows. Since it is just on door windows I can live with not perfect clear views, but I would never put this on a regular window that I enjoy looking out of. I don't trust that this safety film would do much to prevent a burglar from braking in through the window. It might slow them down but I doubt it. I am sure if the window was hit hard with a heavy metal mallot or ax or crowbar it would take the window out with one blow. I still bought a window bar grid to put over the outside of the door windows on my front and back doors. You can buy those things right here on Amazon or Lowes or Home Depot web sites. I hope I never have to find out how well these security films work. I hope nobody ever tries to break a door window or other window to get into my house. Most burgers try to get into the doors first. I have now done all I can to reasonably secure burglars from easily getting into my house through the doors with glass windows. At least if I am home I will hear someone trying to get in in time for me to call 911 and get my guns ready.

Great quality. Comes well packed with tools and instructions. I just ordered more for other windows and patio doors. A few suggestions - film is thick. It will not form to window and allow you to trim precisely. Instead we cut and trimmed before removing backing. Got a good fit then wet down the window, removed backing and wet down film. Zero bubbles. VERY IMPORTANT - window needs to be clean. Bit just Windex/paper towels clean. If you run your hand on it it should be super smooth. We used paper towels then one of those white "eraser" pads, then the back of a green scrubbie sponge. On two windows I could still feel a few bumps so went over while window with a razor blade. Took two extra minutes, but then window was clean. I bought squeegees thinking I needed them, but one that came with the pack is fantastic and I used that for all windows. Sharp knife came with it too - worked well. Overall, decent quality and installs well. No bubbles. Gotta clean the window and spray the crap out of film and window. Put towels under the window on the floor to catch drips. The roll want cheap, but I think I got what I paid for.

Bought it this summer, to put on our windows once we finished the interior remodel of our two back bedrooms. A 3 out of 5 to install until you get the hang of it. But.....there are 3 MAJOR ISSUES: 1.) The BIGGEST issue is that IT IS NOT FOR DOUBLE PANED WINDOWS!!! Wouldn't that have been nice to have known prior to placing an order??? I wasted $60, only to find out after installing it. 2.) It doesn't seem to matter how many times you do the T from the center to the edges or use the squeegee tool there are still bubbles left that you just cannot see, until the adhesive starts to dry. 3.) Then there is the fact that that the film (true to the many reviews) is NOT clear. It leaves an obvious light yellowish haze which is absolutely NOT ideal, and you can totally tell from the outside as well. And....A Few Minor Issues: 1.) The box should come with a slicer built into the box (kind of like you find when buying good saran/plastic wrap). It would just be far more convenient and make it easy for the user. 2.) Peeling the plastic off of the adhesive side of the plastic, is just a total PITA. It is not easy, regardless of the tape you and how or where you place it. 3.) Cutting pieces off of the rolls....Depending on the size of your windows, the pieces can be rather large. I really needed a utility/cutting table with measurement counts/lines on it. 4.) Pre-marking the disposable plastic with straight lines would be quite helpful for the user to be able to cut straight lines when off of the roll. I actually just placed an order for $300 more of this film, which I will be promptly returning. Now I have to take the film off, which I am sure will be no fun. If you have an older home don't waste your money. I would take pictures, but it is so grey right now in the Pacific NW right now, the pictures don't show you anything besides the weird bubbles.

Nothing but good things to say about this film! I ordered the 30"x24' protection film. The film shipped properly, with protective end caps on the roll and it was wrapped in plastic to prevent scratching and the end getting crushed. The install was straight forward, adhesion is excellent and it's crystal clear. Plus it came with a razor and applicator. I'd still definitely recommend buying a squeegee as a lint free method to do the final window cleaning. I've ordered a cheaper film from another vendor and had nothing but problems. The film was just tossed in a box and shipped so it arrived scratched and cracked. Not to mention the glue was defective or inferior so it left the windows looking hazy and dirty. It looked awful. If you're looking at this type of film, it's for a reason. Do your self a favor, Spend the extra $ for this film from BDF. It'll save you some time and a lot aggravation. Some install tips for first timers. Watch a few videos and practice on a small piece of glass like a picture frame. Prep work is the most important part! I can't stress it enough. Take the extra time to make sure the window is 100% dust and grease free. Clean it several times. If the widow looks bad when you start, it'll look worse when you finish and there's no way to get any dirt or that dead bug off the glass after you put the film on. After the window has been cleaned I used a spray bottle filled bottled / filtered water and a drop of dawn soap and a squeegee to remove any lint that was left behind from cleaning. I used some scrap wood and saw horses to make a large table and secured the roll to the table using screws through the and caps. Since many of the windows where the same size I drew the pattern on the table top so I could just unroll, tape it down and cut to size. Worked amazing!

This seems like a great product ! It will do what I want it to do ! BUT... This window film takes ALOT of patience to work with. I bought a large roll so I had extra practice pieces. I bought window film to cover the windows on my 2011 Ford cargo van because I am an evangelist and I have sayings on my van. I wanted extra protection for my windows. This window film is easy to apply as long as you wet the window and wet the film and follow a few other steps. It took many tries for me to get it right. because I kept getting bubbles. This is mostly because I have to work outside and no matter how hard I tried -- dust always settled which would result in a bubble over the dust particle. I finally just did my best and made peace with it. If you can work in a garage -- that might help alot. On the windows I can take out, I cut an oversize piece of window film and then I used a very sharp knife and cut along and trim the edges. This took practice because I ruined a few pieces when my knife slipped. *****This product scratches SUPER EASILY. If you roll it out -- always have a soft fabric under it (lint free if possible) because it will scratch. I rolled it out on a table and when I applied it to my window and noticed that there were loads of scratches all over the film. Dust is all it takes to scatch it. One side is protected because you peel off the film but if the other side gets scratched -- you will notice it. Don't wipe it. To apply this film to my front windows that I can't take out. I held one corner of the peeled film, sprayed my van window with the other hand holding the water hose and then sprayed the water hose on the film as I was holding it to try to get any dust off. This is after I scraped the window with a razor and cleaned it really well with a spray bottle and a cloth. I topped my side and back windows with white perforated vinyl which took practice too. It looks great and it does a good job hiding the bubbles. I don't have a ton of bubbles but I do have a few on each window. If you apply perforated vinyl on top of the BDF film -- it applies easy if you wet the window and the back of the vinyl. For both films -- a sharp blade is a must. I covered the two side windows and the two back windows of my van with both films. These windows have 4 screws so I took the windows out which made them easier to work with. I haven't covered my two large front electric windows yet but I plan to experiment and cover them too with the window film. Just waiting for the next nice day. On one of my side windows -- I put the window film on the inside as well. Maybe that was overkill. I may or may not do the same for the other 3. Not sure yet. I think this window film would be a necessary step for securing RV's. Breaking windows seems to be how thieves like to break in.

Came fast. Well wrapped in a dispenser roll with a mini squeegee and a mini cutting knife. Went up pretty well if you follow video instructions on YouTube of how to install these kinds of products. Tips: watch the roll for production marks on the roll and discard this section as will show lines on your windows. Optain separately, a longer tool (plastic) to wedge against the window frame for straight cutting (you can see these in the videos). Obtain separately, clear silicone that is designed to bond the film to your window frame after the film has dried to the window.

Very good product. The trick to install without squeaks and bubbles is in the solution. i wasted half a roll to finally get good results. What works for me is using distilled water and baby shampoo. A litre spray bottle with a tablespoon of baby shampoo works best for me. I guess you have to adjust the solution according to your areas temperature and amount of sunlight. Also, must scrap three times to get rid of all the air bubbles. Even if you think you don't see bubbles, you still have to do it three times thoroughly. Good luck.
